The Moody family farms and homesteads on 35 acres in Kentucky. John Moody discovered more than a decade ago that his diet was killing him, with duodenal ulcers, seasonal allergies, and other health problems. So, the family began to transition to local foods and local food distribution.

Eventually, John relocated his family to 35 acres of land to put his learning into practice. He is the author of a number of books, including The Frugal Homesteader Handbook and The Elderberry Book. He is the founder of the Whole Life Buying club and co-founder with Joel Salatin of the Rogue Food Conference. He speaks across the country at a wide variety of events and conferences, along with writing for numerous publications and websites in the food, farming, homesteading, and health space.

John joins us today to talk about the Rogue Food Conference. A new event designed to promote the idea of local and sustainable food production, self reliance and solid nutrition.  The first conference was a massive success and there will be two in 2021.  We talk about that and a ton more today.

  1. Thank you for this presentation. People need to hear this. They need to hear how utterly pathetic these government agencies really are. I have been involved in traditional agriculture to various degrees for a lifetime. All that really means is that I am a slow learner…I’m retirement age for most people. My wife and I still sell produce at our own farmer’s market, but we have now diversified into permaculture as well. Hopefully we will be able to add aquaculture in the next couple of years as well [zone 6 we really need to build inside a structure or face the wrath of nature].
