Solaray Zinc Copper Amino Acid Chelates – Item of the Day
Special Note – I talked about this yesterday in Episode 2850 and linked to it. Over night at some point the link I had in that show started redirecting to another product that does not contain copper. I don’t know why so I am officially reviewing this item so there can be no further confusion. Also for the dot gov, I am MAKING NO HEALTH CLAIMS on this SUPPLEMENT. I am just telling you the logic behind why I chose it and why I take it. Do your own research and always check with your healh care provider about any supplement or drug for risks, counter indications, etc.
Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.
Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is Solaray Zinc Copper Amino Acid Chelates. I have always known that zinc is a vital mineral for human health and hence always made sure my multi vitamins have included a highly absorbable form or zinc. Then in 2020 when CoVid hit I did a lot of research about exactly what the science says about how zinc helps us with immune functions.
It turned out the primary way was by getting zinc into our cells. That when zinc is inside the cell our scientific research indicates that it slows the replication of many viruses and even some other things such as some types of cancer cells. The issue was even very absorbable zinc does a poor job of getting inside our cell walls. This led me to find quercetin as a natual ionophore for zinc, with proven scientific that it does in fact work as an ionophore. Meaning it opens a path way and gets zinc into the cell.
Quercetin is a commonly available health supplement and there are many good sources of it, I settled on this one, but any should be fine if made by a quality manufacturer. So the next step was find zinc for daily use. The recommendations I kept finding for immune boosting were 50mg per day. There were a ton of options of quality zinc, so I didn’t really worry much about brand.
Along the way an MD from the TSPC audience reached out and told me something I didn’t know. This fact is EASY to confirm but you generally don’t find it unless you specifically know to research it. Tons of medical sites run by professionals recommend zinc and leave this part out, you need to supplement copper if you daily supplement zinc. The reason is copper and zinc compete for absorption in the gut and copper is a necessary mineral for many functions in your body. So experts recommend for every 50mg of zinc you include 2mg of copper.
Given this is common medical knowledge I figured there’d be tons of options, there may be but on Amazon I only found one that was also a long known manufacturer of supplements. That one was of course Solaray Zinc Copper Amino Acid Chelates. I have now been using it for about 8 months and I am grateful to the Doctor that made me aware of the need for copper with zinc supplementation.
Again I am not making any health claims that this product will treat, cure or prevent a disease. What I am saying is that it is known science that zinc inside your cells reduces the replication of many viruses, specifically those that are mRNA based such as CoVid-SARs-2 and variants there of. I am also stating that it is known science that an ionophore such as quercetin is needed even when supplementing zinc to get it inside the cell walls. Lastly that when supplementing zinc daily the science says you should also supplement copper.
From that point I invite you to do your own research and make your own decisions. Then if you decide you want to supplement zinc, I do think you should put Solaray Zinc Copper Amino Acid Chelates at the top of your list for brands to consider.
