Episode-2328- Expert Council Q&A for 11-16-18 — 5 Comments

  1. Awesome to hear a response on homemade guns.

One of the big price savings on building a pistol from a poly 80 lower and choosing the slide and all that, is they’re cheaper if you are going to having any milling work done for additional slide serrations or back mount for a red dot or any work to reshape the grip and trigger frame.

And for the 1911 guys, there are plenty of 80% receivers for 1911s.

Thanks to Dan and Jack for your answers.

FYI, I’m not personally looking to replace my carry Glock 19 MOS with a self assembled gun, or my self defense rifle with a “ghost gun” I made myself. Although I’d love to take a build an AK or CETME from a parts kit to say I did it.

  2. I was pleased to hear the segment about an introvert who (I’m assuming) wants to function better in a culture that values extroversion. I’m an introvert too, as I’m about to prove by doing a classically introvert thing: I’m going to recommend a book. It’s “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking” by Susan Cain. Her case is that throughout the 20th century extroversion has been seen as the “ideal” personality type and the specific gifts of introverts downgraded. Her explanation and examples were very helpful to me, even in understanding my own coping mechanisms (that I picked up from my introverted parents, and many of which Jack described). This is a good book for anyone who wants to explore this topic in more depth, whether for her/himself, to understand someone else better, or to step outside cultural group-think and examine common assumptions (like “extroversion is normal and better”).

  3. The strongest herbal diuretic I have found is sunflower leaf tea. Almost as strong as commercial pharmaceuticals.

  4. Breeding Cory Cats..Man that brought back memories from a few years ago…no longer have fish but miss them….Cories a challenge but I succeeded a couple times…..shortly getting back in to them.

  5. I have compassion for the introverted young man.  I was very much so as a young person.  What helped me the most was coming to understand my personality type based on Myers-Briggs.  I am an INTJ, which represents only 2 % of the population.  No wonder people found my way of looking at things strange!!  Knowing I am an INTJ helped me to embrace my strengths and work on communicating with others more in “their speak”.  A personality test can be found here: https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test.  Terrific explanations of the 16 types are also found there.  Hope this helps!
