Episode-1058- Listener Feedback for 1-21-13 — 54 Comments

  1. Hey Jack, a small update from AZ, sb 1050 has been introduced that would make it a class 4 felony to POSSESS a magazine with a capacity over 10 rounds.

    • Means absolutely nothing. If you worry about everything “introduced” you are wasting oxygen. That bill has as much chance of passing in AZ as you do of wining the lottery 5 times and never buying a ticket. The key here is to ask yourself why someone would introduce such a law knowing it doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell.

  2. Humor: A Must Read Obituary – Common Sense

    Original: texaspreppersnetwork.blogspot.com/ 2009/ 02/ must-read-obituary.html

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.

No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: – Knowing when to come in out of the rain; – Why the early bird gets the worm; – Life isn’t always fair; – and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

    He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I-Know-My-Rights, I-Want-It-Now, Someone-Else-Is-To-Blame and I’m-A-Victim

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

  3. Great show Jack. I wanted to say something about the story about the kindergartener from PA. The only way to stop this sort of nonsense is to either remove your kids from public schools and send them to private or, like you said, sue/shame the schools into backing off. Also, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to hold these teachers personally liable for their actions instead of letting them hide behind the legal wall of the school system.

We ran into a similar situation with our oldest boy (now 15 yo) when he was in the third grade and out of the blue the whole district decided to change the way that they taught math. Overnight his math grades went from B’s to D’s all because they needed to be “progressive” in their teaching methods. After several meetings where the teachers and principal basically said “it is what it is” we pulled him out and put him in small private school. It was tough financially but it was the best decision we’ve ever made and have since sent our other four boys there as well. It taught us that the only way you’ll ever get a voice in how your kids are educated is to put them in a place where the teachers and administrators have a vested interest in making sure that you’re satisfied with their efforts and approach.

  4. What do you mean when you say you arent giving an inch if they come to take your weapons? I get it if you have fifty million doing the same thing, but alone you will die. You would get some media attention because you have ~60,000 listeners, but someone like me will be protrayed as a kook who fought the law and was killed for being a kook.

Give me Liberty or give me death would make my grandkids and loved ones worse off and accomplish nothing but death.

I want to fight the good fight, I dont understand the not give an inch thing.

Best wishes on your move to Texas.

    Steve

    • I mean exactly what I said, to hither thou shall come and no further. One man stood up to a tank in China, don’t think for a second I would be alone though.

      • The world needs more people like that. To be honest, I am not sure I am one. Hopefully the time never comes for either of us to demonstrate.

      • Jack,
If I were one of your new neighbors I would certainly tell you, you would not be alone. I love my life my God and my family but I would have your back!

      • Damn straight. I had a friend once say that in order to protect your rights you have to be willing to spend some time in handcuffs; meaning that if you want to preserve your freedoms you have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone and back up your line in the sand. Make no mistake, those that seek to oppress are counting on you choosing comfort, unless you don’t.

    • I know a lot of people that feel the same way as Jack and I’m one. I have an ancestor that fought at Lexington and Concord. I won’t let him down. I’ve had a good life. This is my (our) line in the sand.

  5. Fortunately I live in a small town where there is still a bit of common sense. The principal at the school where my wife works is encouraging every teacher that wants to, to get their CCW and start carring at the school. My wife has been to several firearms training courses, so a lot of teachers are coming to her for advice. I think the principal is great. He is not making a big deal about it, just quietly spreading the word around to the faculty. That “gun free zone” isn’t.

  6. Hey Jack,

Great show, I just wanted to let you know that commonsense hasn’t left every school official everywhere. I took the required class to get my CPL on Saturday and there were two school adminstrators there taking the class, one was a woman. The other was the adminstrator for the school my kids go to. (My kids go to a great school!)

I had a conversation with them, and asked if there was a chance they could be allowed to carry in school. They said no, but it is perfectly legal for them to have the gun locked up in the car. During the conversation I made the suggestion of carrying pepper spray, because even if they can’t carry a gun in school at least they would have something they could use to help incapacitate an aggressor. They seamed to be very open to the idea.

  7. Great show Jack. Exna on the exasTa… We have enough Northern foreigners clogging the interstates here already. 🙂

  8. Jack, I just dusted myself off from the fall to the floor ! I am disgusted with any view of “Tax Incentives” for business’ to transition to any state. Piss on corporate welfare, stay the hell out of Arizona if you simply can’t move on your own accord without expecting us whoring out our Tax Dollar to move a company into my state. VOMIT !
you may now return to the regularly scheduled program….
    carry on.
    Brian — entrepreneur.

    • Oh bullshit, a tax incentive means allowing someone to not pay a tax or pay a reduced tax for a time. There is no cost to doing so for the people. As I think most taxes are immoral anyway, I am fine with them being suspended to bring business into a state. If I could bring 25 small companies that employed an average of 15 people a piece by allowing them to pay zero property taxes for two years I would do it in half a heart beat.

This is no different then your first month free for a cell phone.

Right now you don’t have the 25 companies IN YOUR TAX BASE, you can’t lose what you don’t yet have.

Right now you don’t have the 375 jobs this would create and those 375 people are not spending in your economy.

I mean if I had my way all income tax, personal and corporate would be gone and all property taxes too. But hell if taxes exist and you can attract jobs by waving them for a time, do it. You say you are an entrepreneur, well act like it and DO MATH. The above scenario creates MORE tax revenue with no real cost both short and long term.

If you worry about taxes businesses pay you are missing the point, BUSINESSES never pay taxes, their customers do.

    • SO, let it be known, you are more than accepting of bending your morality to fit your own immediate desire…got it. Welfare for business, giving an upper hand for my potential competitor? I would tell you hell no, even if offered the same prorated break. STuuu-pid, double standard, Jack. I am not a pro- growth at any cost guy. I would prefer all the vagabonds business or otherwise go back to where they have come from rather than bringing their dumb ass political views to bear in my county or state.

      • There is also absolutely no double standard on my end. I am 100% opposed to all taxes on income or property so the elimination or reduction of them in order to accomplish anything is 100% consistent with that.

By the way anyone that would move a business from NY to TX over the 2A is welcome in my neighborhood, hell I will help you unload the trucks. So if you don’t want them buddy I will take them. You don’t want such people bring their politics to your area and you call me stupid?

In the words of Mr. Gump, stupid is as stupid does. So sure forget growing your jobs, your economy and your tax base, tell all those freedom seakers to come to North Texas, I’ll welcome them with open arms.

        • If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance baffle them with BS heh Jack. your loop of reasoning and caving for tax incentives for business development is exactly the attitude that placed us where we are, on the brink of collapse. 100% consistent and stuck in a go along to get along on taxes. You cave in and comply. You cannot be “morally opposed to them at the same time you promote them, less you embrace your own Hypocrisy. Well maybe you can. Not for me.
I do live in my own little world, aint it wonderful. Fear not though , many birds of my feather.

  9. Hi Jack,

Just wanted to point out that your notes for the listener feedback show needs updating. It still says “It’s the first show of the new year and….”

      • Look you are entitled to disagree but quit being an insulting dick. You view this one way I view it another. I want to bring in more people that build business, hire people and support our constitutional rights. You want to “be right” at the expense of reality.

A republic is a competitive society, states compete and states should compete for the best citizenry based on the reality we must deal with today.

We are also not in our current debt crisis from tax incentives you have to be out of your mind to suggest that, seriously. The total taxes paid to the fed is in excess of 2 trillion dollars, we don’t have a tax problem we have a spending problem. This is true as well at the county, state and city levels.

Again I would do away with all taxes on property and income if I had the power to do so. I don’t and most county and city officials can’t either even if they wanted to. They can waive taxes on buildings that are currently sitting empty to bring in businesses that create jobs though. If you can’t understand that go back to the little fantasy world you are so proud of.

        • First off, I was not the one who initiated insult…Hehehm. I wont go that route, as you have, just yet. Your wrong, that is all. Once the tax Break, Incentive is expired what happens. We’ll the Guv’munt steps in, taxes are raised and infrastructure issues are brought to bare DUE to growth. You have tunnel vision and skewed perceptions of reality, Most Keynesian economists do. The reason tax breaks and incentives are out there is due to perceived need. The offer was placed, now the NEED/INCENTIVE becomes a perpetual loop of parasites on both fronts. Any and all causes are accepted to raise the volume of grant money and myriad of incentives. Then the false body/development creates bubbles in economies just waiting to pop. Genius. Funny you claimed my statements as BS, then when I called yours BS, you whine insult? …. what a puss…. a needle for a dick. Further more you are showing yourself to be a colossal liar about how BUSY you are with excessive e-mails and your move. . 400 a day? And you have time for this trivial pursuit.. now that, my needle dicked friend is BS. Stroke that ego, it is all you have. Now, I have insulted you, I felt bad, but I’ll be okay. You don’t even know your own mark when you do insult…I however do know mine. I don’t embrace my hypocrisies, you however, you do. You cannot simultaneously save and spend. You cannot simultaneously promote and condemn. Not unless you are seriously warped.

        • Well now you went an cussed me out and really acted like a complete fucking asshole. So you are now banned from commenting on TSP, completely and totally, good bye. I will tolerate a lot, I don’t mind disagreements and even you being a dick about it but when you just start cursing out a guy and insulting him like a child on a playground you get to go away and stay away.

  10. You should know that by today’s standards none of us was supposed to ever make it.
    HIGH SCHOOL — 1957 vs. 2012
    Scenario 1:
Jack goes quail hunting before school and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck’s gun rack..
1957 – Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack’s shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack.
2012 – School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.
    Scenario 2:
Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.
1957 – Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.
2012 – Police called and SWAT team arrives — they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.
    Scenario 3:
Jeffrey will not be still in class, he disrupts other students.
1957 – Jeffrey sent to the Principal’s office and given a good paddling by the Principal. He then returns to class, sits still and does not disrupt class again.
2012 – Jeffrey is given huge doses of Ritalin. He becomes a zombie. He is then tested for ADD. The family gets extra money (SSI) from the government because Jeffrey has a disability.
    Scenario 4:
Billy breaks a window in his neighbor’s car and his Dad gives him a whipping with his belt.
1957 – Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman..
2012 – Billy’s dad is arrested for child abuse, Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. The state psychologist is told by
Billy’s sister that she remembers being abused herself and their dad goes to prison. Billy’s mom has an affair with the psychologist.
    Scenario 5:
Mark gets a headache and takes some aspirin to school.

1957 – Pedro goes to summer school, passes English and goes to college.
2012 – Pedro’s cause is taken up by state. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro’s English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum.. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he cannot speak English.
    Scenario 7:
Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the Fourth of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle and blows up a red ant bed.
    1957 – Ants die.
2012 – ATF, Homeland Security and the FBI are all called. Johnny is charged with domestic terrorism. The FBI investigates his parents – and all siblings are removed from their home and all computers are confiscated. Johnny’s dad is placed on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.
    Scenario 8:
Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.
1957 – In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2012 – Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.

    • @Rich, I know some of that is to be a joke but you don’t know how close the first one is to reality for me.

In 1989 and there abouts we didn’t go quail hunting before school but did go dove hunting after school. The gun was not visible in a rack but was in my car and many of my friends were the same. More then once our Dean and Shop teacher went hunting with us. Changed clothes and just drove out to the farms.

This was absolutely 100% normal and acceptable. Not even the 50s this was the 80s. I had my bow in the car in archery season. I had a rifle during deer season, from school to the woods was NORMAL behavior. I had a 22 in the car from early fall into heavy winter because I ran trap lines for money. People knew, no one cared.

Oh and school was closed on the first day of deer season. Today people would probably freak the hell out in the spring, that is when I carried fishing gear.

Oh yea I got in my share of fights too, none involved a gun even though almost everyone had access to them.

  11. Can anyone provide the link to sign up for the newsletter from Backyard Food Production? I clicked the sponsor link but only find links to buy the DVDs.

  12. NH does not only have the free state project but we do already have better gun laws than many of the states that were listed in the ‘good’ column on today’s show – Certainly not better than all of them in every way. Our concealed carry permit process appears to be a lot easier than Texas and fewer restrictions about where one can carry.

Not intending this thread to become a mine is better than yours thread though I do look forward to the day when states compete on the basis of who provides the greatest amount of liberty. http://mercatus.org/freedom-50-states-2011

I do agree with Jack though that NH is not for everyone and if you can move an hour away (or in some cases less) and improve your chances at freedom, by all means do so, but we certainly belong ‘in the list’.

    • What’s your forum name ? I was over a friends house and we have been a bit shocked at all the gun control talk in the state.

I’m in the greater Boston area .. thanks for sharing that web site, I watched the video ..

      • I’m not on the forum (maybe I should be).

Given our current gun laws in MA, I’m not at all shocked by the new ones being proposed. Now’s the time to contact your state rep and senator. If new gun control makes it to the floor, there’s a good chance it will pass — but if they get enough grief now there’s a chance it will get quietly buried in procedure.

        • If you have an email address or something, let me know. I did make a phone call to state rep. I am not sure how it came off sounding. I left a message as it was a sunday and I sent an email. I lost the motivation at the moment to try again or to talk to someone

  13. At the risk of being called a dumb ass, would you really take it to a literal ass kicking as your first response to your child being questioned. A sober expression of your disapproval and the legality of their actions would be a better first action than attempting to go for.the family discount on mental health.

    • Let me tell you if anyone did this to a 5 year old child of mine for 3 HOURS without contacting me and terrifying them by saying they are going to go to jail, yes I would physically kick their ass.

You are not a dumb ass we all have our own lines in the sand. Likely there are things someone could do to your child that would end in a physical response from you, our lines are apparently just different.

For instance if someone raped your child and you got to them before authorities you might kick their ass and leave them for the cops after that if you had the ability to do so anyway. Perhaps not, I am not here to judge your line.

For me take my 5 year old into a 3 hour interrogation without notifying me and you have crossed my line.

And frankly there are people that need their asses kicked. It wasn’t that long ago that just about any man would have done what I say I would do and shockingly stuff like this happened a lot less often.

Funny enough I think based on the fact that I always was nice to but clear with my son’s school officials would have prevented anything like this from ever happening. Just like military response an ass kicking doesn’t have to happen to be effective, it sometimes just needs to be on the table.

Such dumb ass officials should know that if you do this and roll the dice you just might end up with someone who won’t stand for it on the other end with their foot in your ass. If common sense fails then good old fashioned fear of reprisal can be step two to prevent abuse of our children.

Finally I probably would not actually kick the person’s ass but I would consider it, it all depends on what actually occurred in those 3 hours. But an ass kicking is most certainly on the table.

  14. The reason San Bernardino PD is taking more sick time, is because they feel they may lose their banked sick time instead of cashing it out when they retire.
It is probably a separate bankrupt-able debit against the city.

  15. One point you missed on Jack. You mentioned that the Constitution guarantees the right to keep and bear arms… this is a false statement. The Bill of Rights guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms with the 2nd Amendment. The Constitution itself had/has flaws, this is the reason the states got together and created the Bill of Rights, and the reason our Founding Fathers created the amendment process.

    • Chad…honestly why does this really have any baring on the conversation. The Bill of Rights is part of the Constitution.. that its an adendum does nothing to make it a seperate document. Nitpicking is silly.

      • Because some people have an innate need to do such shit. Every amendment is as much a part of the constitution as the original document. Period.

  16. I think we’re missing what’s really going on with this zero-tolerance and what appears to be absurd over-reaction in these schools regarding guns. It’s merely part of the long-term plan to brainwash the kiddies so that one day soon, they’ll be the ones supporting the confiscation of these terrifying weapons.

    • my thoughts exactly, they want to get rid of the idea that anyone should have a gun or a weapon and try to get kids to think that way.

  17. Jack another story about school.I seen on the news today about a 13 year old girl who is being picked on because she is over mature for her age.The mother called the school to complain and the response she got was send her to another school or get her a breast reduction.

  18. In a 1995
    interview Eric Holder
    states:
    “What
we need to do is change the way in which people think about guns,
especially young people, and make it something that’s not cool, that
    it’s not acceptable…”

In other words brainwash the youth.  The “zero tolerance”
policies in schools are doing this.  The goal is not to keep
guns out of schools, it’s to make the very idea of a gun something to
be ashamed of.  Young children are humiliated with suspension
for merely gestering with their thumb and finger, or drawing a picture
of soldier with a rifle.  And parents re-enforce this idea,
even if they disagree with the policy.  I recently witnessed
this at a youth hockey game.  The team is called the Snipers.
The logo is simple: a circle with crosshairs on a
white background.  Above and below it reads Snipers Ice
Hockey.  I overheard one parent discussing with another that
he wouldn’t let his son wear the team jacket to school because of the
insane policy.  But he followed up that he understood why they
do it.  I don’t think he really does.  I don’t think
most of us understand that the real goal behind these zero tolerence
laws is to brainwash our kids from a very early age.

  19. Jack,
I would expect an ex-army guy would know what Army of ONE stands for!
    Officer,
    Non-Commisioned Officer,
    Enlisted.
Which spells ONE. Together, being one together regardless of rank.

    • Well 25 years ago when I was in the army no one said that, the entire acronym is a quite new one. I however do know what it means, it is still an epic failure though. How many of the 17-21 year old kids who those ads are marketed at have any clue what it means.

First rule of marketing, don’t market anything so unique to your organization that outsiders will fail to understand it. It is even worse if not only is it not understood but is also misinterpreted.

Again though in my day there was no such thing as “an Army of One”, my generation was the “we do more before 9AM then most people do all day” and “be all you can be” generation of soldiers. I think Army of One only goes back to about Y2K.

    • Understood and I agree however the way you talked about it on the show it gave the uninformed listeners that the ONE (technically O.N.E. but you get the point) stood for me me me me so to speak. Like it was an egocentric statement that is was all about what the soldier got out of the army.
Then again, when is the last time you talked to a recruiter? These acronyms are explain to potential recruits.

      • Great that they do that but again we are talking marketing here. There is no recruiter during the commercials during the game etc.

Now this could be flipped if anyone had a brain in the firm running the campaign.

“What is an army of ONE? It isn’t what you think, to find the answer go to http://www.army.gov/one or talk to an army recruiter.”

Now see that is a hook that creates a lead.

  20. Re your comment of kicking the ass of the person who interrogated the 5yo, and you said it was probably a woman, so …, WELLLLL, let it be a cat fight and send the momma in to kick ass (sell tickets and pay per view). Our society has just gotten their heads so far up their PC asses they are seein daylight. Until parents put their foot down and say NO MORE of this no tolerance BS, 5 yo will be kicked out of school. Bring back common sense, or move to Canada.

  21. Hey Jack, good episode. I agree with getting the hell out of the states that restrict liberty.

A few words on Nevada, since you brought it up. There is no personal or corporate income tax allowed here by state constitution. The costs of business licensing & incorporation are also very low. WRT firearms: open carry, CCW with permit, private gun sales, and no registration of anything (except handguns in Clark County [Vegas]).

You’re absolutely right though about southern Nevada (aka Vegas & its suburbs) being completely unsustainable wrt water. There is enough water underground in the rest of the state to support the limited population and in Washoe county via the runoff from the Sierra & Lake Tahoe. Not a lot of wood in most of the state, but excellent opportunities for solar power, and maybe even geothermal. Companies right now are fleeing out of Kalifornia over the mountains to set up here – which is great!

Here’s the rub though. As you’ve probably noticed in the last couple elections, the state is trending more & more liberal due primarily to population advantages in the Vegas area, which is dominated by union interests & Hispanics, both of which tend to support socialistic ideas. Dirty Harry Reid has already put forth plans to essentially pump underground water down from central Nevada to supply Vegas. And the Vegas dominated state assembly is starting to introduce bills that would “tax receipts” of corporations that make revenue over $1M/yr. How that isn’t an income tax I’ll never know – I guess cuz it’s on gross revenue? Sheesh!

So anyway, even though the rest of the state is currently livable and we enjoy many liberties, I sense the spirit changing, and the change is coming from that growing cancer of entitlement/socialism that is Southern Nevada. I fear through their superior numbers they are going to chip away at our liberties. Not only that, but if TSHTF, we’ll have a region of 2.5M+ (about 3/4 of our total population) all packed together with almost no resources, and they’ll want to take from the rest of us because they’re “entitled”.

I wonder if what is happening here is a precursor to what will happen in Texas? And maybe Arizona? How long before they too start to turn less red, then neutral, then slightly blue?

So I think while it’s important to evaluate a state for how it is today wrt liberty, finances, etc., it’s also important to see the evolving trend of where that state is headed if things continue.
