Today its Friday so it’s time for expert council show. To ask a question for a show like this, just send an email to me at jack at thesurvivalpodcast.com with “TSPC Expert” in the subject line.

Today the expert council answers questions on life insurance, zika, business, microgreens, energy, travel trailers, cooking and more.

I do what I can to get as many of your questions as possible on the air but can’t always get to all of them. Our council is made of a wide variety of experts in everything from the tactical to the practical and everything in between.

Episode-1972- 20 Things Every Child Should Know How To Do By Age 14

I rail on the millennial generation a lot, more accurately I rail on their parents (my generation) for not teaching them life skills and frankly reality.  Well, you can bitch about things or your can provide solutions, and I try to be a solutions guy.

I want to be clear, that these skills alone will not fix the problem, there is a philosophical difference that is a problem as well.  In the generations before parents put themselves where they belonged, at the head of the family. They were first parents and secondly their child’s friend.  I will say a bit on this today, because it needs saying but if you take the path of teaching your kids these skills, perhaps even first learning a few yourself I think you will find you have to do what many parents no longer do, lead.

This is the crux of the problem, our nation is desperately lacking leadership, and we keep looking beyond ourselves for it.  Well trust me when your 12 year old daughter is wielding a Glock or a skill saw, you will see the need for leadership instantly.

Join Me Today To Discuss…

  • Why I chose this topic for today
  • How the mental shift lead to the skills being lost
  • Why we must restore individual leadership in America today
  • My list of 20 things is not the list of “THE 20 THINGS” – this is important
  • 20 things every child should be able to do by age 14
    • Possesses basic economic literacy
    • Be able to teach what they know to others with confidence
    • Be able to identify edible and dangerous plants in their area
    • Grow plants and propagate them
    • Safely use firearms
    • Use basic hand tools (mechanical and wood working)
    • Use basic power tools (drill, saws, etc.)
    • Cook (this doesn’t mean make Kraft mac and cheese)
    • Catch fish local to their area
    • Be able to argue a point with basic logic
    • How to do laundry
    • Self directed learning
    • How to train a dog
    • Basic self defense
    • Basic entrepreneurial thinking
    • How to use a shovel, a hoe, a pick and a rake
    • Start a fire, keep it safe and put it out
    • Repair and maintain a bicycle
    • Practice basic first aid
    • Safely use a ladder
  • Final Thoughts – Don’t like my list, add, subtract, append, make your own

Aumo Bluetooth Magnetic Headphones – Item of the Day

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is Aumo Bluetooth Magnetic Headphones.  Recently I upgraded to an iPhone 7.  Frankly I am blown away but the video quality it produces.  The fact that it requires a lightning cable enabled earphone set though led me to finally get with the modern times and find a good bluetooth ear buds set.

Let me be honest, without breaking the bank this was the absolute best set I could find.  This item has over 70 reviews on Amazon and 95% are four star and above, in fact 92% are five stars.  In the world of electronics that says something.  The product is also covered by Amazon’s 30 day instant return policy and the manufacturer warranties it for 12 months.

Here is what I was looking for in a product like this…

  1.  Magnetic – to be blunt I lose shit, like all the damn time.  I don’t so much lose it, rather set it down and can’t find it for a day or three, even though it is 10 feet away from me.  The fact that I can just leave them around my neck when not in use reduces this a lot.
    `
  2. Good Quality Microphone – I do a lot of my youtube videos behind the camera walking the property, going to using a head set upped the audio quality a great deal.  But get this, since this is bluetooth with a 10 meter range, it doubles as a wireless microphone when I am in front of the camera.
    `
  3. Good Battery Life – You get about 8 hours of continuous talk or listening with over 240 hours of standby time.  I just charge it when I charge my phone, in other words often.
    `
  4. Good Value – I know some of you are super music people that want super sound and will pay almost as much for head phones as your phone, that ain’t me man.  These sell for about 36 bucks “on sale” with a list price of $79.99.  But I bought mine a while a go, they were on sale then, I think these are one of those items always “on sale”.  Would I pay 80 bucks for these, no there are competitors who are damn good and less, but I would pay 50 and not bat an eye.

So if you are in the market for a set of bluetooth earbuds you could do a lot worse than Aumo.  Let me also say, if you are an old school type still using wired phones, you never will again once you try these or any decent set for that matter.  Working in the yard and NOT having the wire snag on your shorts pocket, rip the buds from your ear and your phone from your pocket is a nice thing!

Again for you Youtube content creators, consider if you use your phone for video that any good bluetooth earbuds will do the job of a wireless microphone that would cost hundreds of dollars.  So check out the Aumo Bluetooth Magnetic Headphones and free yourself from wires today.

Remember you can always find the TSP Amazon Item of the day by just going to TspAz.com along with all of our Amazon reviews.

Episode-1971- Future Business, Political and Entrepreneurial Trends

Today we are going to take a look at where we are and where we are headed in 2017 and beyond.  We will start off with a brief look at current politics, and how I expect to see the health care fiasco play out.  I will also discuss where I think relations with China will head under the Trump administration.  Lastly will we see major tax reform in Trump’s administration, if so what will it look like.

Next we will look at trends in business for the next 4 years, who will the new winners and losers be?  Why we will see death and a limited rebirth in retail.  How block chain technology will be embraced by some of the largest corporations in the world and what that might mean for us in the future.

We then turn to entrepreneurship at the individual level.  I tell you the types of jobs and side hustles I think will be effective in the next 5-10 years.  I will talk about why you should profit from things even if they are short term trends as well.

Join Me Today to Discuss…

  • The Obamacare mess is right where I said it would be
  • Why Trump will make things in the end even easier for China
  • Why tax reform will likely happen, why it frankly has to
  • How retail is dying and being reborn at the same time
  • Why the banks have to move to a block chain like technology
  • How marketing will become laser targeted in the next 10 years
  • Some entrepreneurship level opportunities and why they have merit
    • Home and homestead level automation
    • Unique high end food and beverage items
    • Real Estate – get creative
    • Block Chain Technology Is The New Internet
  • Above all think agility and adaptation

Davidson’s Organic Peppermint Leaves – Item of the Day

Every day I bring you an item on Amazon that I personally use or has been purchased by many members of the audience and I have researched enough to recommend.

Today’s TSP Amazon Item of the day is Davidson’s Organic Peppermint Leaves which are a great deal at $13.55 a pound.

As many of you know I grow a lot of peppermint on my homestead so you may wonder why I buy this product.

Think of it this way, to make a pound of dry mint you need to harvest about ten pounds.  You then need to dry it, sort it, sift it and then you have your pound.  Now I use fresh mint all the time but I also make up blends for use as daily teas, mead infusions, etc.  If it takes me two hours of jacking around to make a pound of dry mint I can buy for 14 bucks, I am valuing my time at 7 dollars an hour.

It comes down to this…

  • Sheer Volume
  • Ease of Use
  • Value of my Time

My number one use for this product is my daily drinking tea, I love this stuff and try to make up about 4 quarts every time I blend it.  We give some away but I honestly go through about a quart a week.  So we are back to time value equations, do one blending, drink tea for a month.  Here is that recipe.  All parts are measured by volume not weight.

Jacks Morning Blend – Nine Mile Farms Tea

That tea is one every singe person who has tried it loved.  Especially sweetened with stevia.  Another blend I do is simply 50% peppermint to 50% lemon balm.  This makes a great tea on its own, I also make a mead with it at 3 lbs of honey to the gallon, infused with 3/4ths of a cup of this blend.

All by itself it makes a great tea, I use about 4 level tablespoons to my large French Press or about two to a large cup with my Tea Infuser.  If you have paid attention you will notice that Davidson’s is one of my go to’s when it comes to herbs and tea.  They have an incredible value to price ratio, are almost always available in organic and simply taste great.

Remember you can always find the TSP Amazon Item of the day by just going to TspAz.com along with all of our Amazon reviews.

P.S. – For some reason Amazon has lumped ALL Davidson’s tea reviews together, this renders the reviews on this item essentially useless.

Episode-1970- Listener Feedback for 3-27-17

jackspirkoToday on The Survival Podcast I take your questions on planting trees, evolving technology, economics, ammo selection, social media and more.

Remember to be on a show like this one just pick up your phone and call 866-65-THINK.

Make sure if you submit content for a feedback show that you put something like “comment for jack”, “question for jack” or “article for jack” in the subject line to assure proper identification for my screening process.

Please understand I receive several hundred emails a day and can’t get them all on the air.

I also do put out a lot of information on Facebook from emails that I can’t fit on the program though so keep em coming.

Join Me Today As I Respond to Your Calls and Discuss…

  • Getting ground ready for tree planting
  • The death of retail continues and what it all means
  • Listener feedback on a week of rewind episodes
  • A millennial speaks the truth about what it takes to succeed today
  • Selecting ammo for newbies
  • Understanding the tax advantages of even a micro enterprise
  • Why I don’t automate my “social media”
  • Balancing paleo and permaculture

Guns Holsters and Gear

TSP Business Directory Featured Member

Guns Holsters & Gear

Tax time is over (at least for me), so I am back with another featured business out of our community directory. This week we are taking a look at a business that specializes in reviews of guns and tactical gear. What I like about this business is that they do not accept manufacturer ads, so there is not a very big chance of review bias here. Richard puts together these reviews with the consumer in mind. They also write reviews for knives and tactical/survival gear as well.

Gun and Gear Reviews

“I’ll put it simply: my gun reviews are biased toward the consumer.  I aim to give you the best information possible so you can make an informed decision.  No gun manufacturer has paid us or compensated us in any way to publish reviews here, nor will I ever accept such money.”

News and Useful Information for Gun Owners

Outside of the regular reviews, the site also provides some really great information for gun owners absolutely free of charge. You can access the entire site without paying for any content. Get useful answers to questions like “Am I required to apply a serial number to a homemade firearm?” They even have book reviews and cover industry events like the 2017 Shot Show. So, if you’re looking for honest reviews and news on firearms, check out http://www.gunsholstersandgear.com/

Gun and tactical gear reviews

Check out Guns Holsters & Gear along with all the other business in the TSP Business Directory. We literally have businesses that specialize in everything from guns to gardening and everything in-between. Speaking of gardening, we’re really starting to get into Spring weather here in Alabama. Check out all the listings under Farming/Homesteading and Nursery/Seed Supply before you start planting your garden this year. You might find something new to try in your annual garden, or maybe get some rare perennials established to diversify your food preps.

About the Directory

The TSP Business Directory is a place for listeners to advertise their businesses to the rest of the TSP community. You can get setup for less than $10 a year and gain exposure to Jack’s growing audience. Premium listings get a ton of added marketing help like these featured posts and exposure to the TSP Facebook community. If you have a business, consider listing it with us to let the TSP nation know what you do and how you can add value with your product or service. I’ll be back in April with a featured post on CDS Tactical.

Episode-36- TSP Rewind – The One Year Anniversary Show

rewindToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes.

Today’s episode was originally, Episode-224- The One Year Anniversary Show and was first broadcast on June 19th, 2009.

Not much for show notes today.  Today’s show is all calls from the audience describing what the last year has been like for them.  I only speak about 90 seconds total today.  Get ready to be inspired!  If you have been looking for a way to get friends and family on board, I think this will be a great show to share with them.

Today we continue with our week of vintage shows.  The following are the original show notes from that episode.

Episode-35- TSP Rewind – The Core Mission of The Survival Podcast

rewindToday is an episode of TSP Rewind, commercial free versions of past podcast episodes.

Today’s episode was originally, Episode-223- The Core Mission of The Survival Podcast and was first broadcast on June 18th, 2009.

Today we continue with our week of vintage shows.  This show was one day shy of our one year anniversary episode.  I took this moment to reflect on our first, explain what I was really doing and lay out the future vision for the show and community.  I think after listening to it, you will see that all the way forward into 2017 we are still on track.

The following are the original show notes form this episode.

So what are we really doing every day on TSP?  Is it just about storing food, creating self sufficiency and putting together a more sustainable life?  Of course the show is about those things but it also about a lot more.

Tomorrow we are doing a very special episode in honor of our 1 year anniversary.  So today I wanted to inspire you to really think about how you are living, what your goals are and decide you really can take control.  While I hope today’s show is inspirational I think what you hear from fellow listeners tomorrow will be even more so.
