Applying Gun Control Logic to Stairs

What Happens When You Apply Gun Control Logic to Stairs?

What Happens When You Apply Gun Control Logic to Stairs?

Recently I authored an article at Brink of Freedom.  I also did a pretty cool 19 minute video based on it.  Here is the beginning of the article…

You hear it all the time from those who want gun control laws added to the more than 25,000 plus existing regulations, “if it only saves one life, it is worth it.”  Many of us who actually value simple small things like the right of self determination, the constitution of the nation, and individual liberty will often point to automotive deaths as a counter argument, but I have a better one – deaths and injuries due to staircases.   Let’s examine some classic gun grabber logic and apply it to staircases.  I think you will be shocked at the results.

First some statistics, falling down stairs on average

  • Kills over 1,300 people per year – (source)
  • Over 1 million people are injured per year in stairway falls – (source)
  • Nearly 100,000 children a year are injured enough by stairway falls to require hospitalization – (source)
  • Young children and the elderly are the most victimized by falls – (source)

Let’s take those numbers over a decade we get…

  • 13,000 deaths that never had to happen
  • 10,000,000 plus hospital visits that never had to happen
  • 1,000,000 children hospitalized for serious injury that never had to happen
  • An unfair and disproportionate group of victims who are small kids or older adults that need protection

Episode-1291- Kermit Jones author of “Prepper Pete Prepares”

Prepper Pete Teaches Kids about Preparedness.

Prepper Pete Teaches Kids about Preparedness.

Join me for a conversation with Kermit Jones about Prepping with Kids: Don’t Scare – Prepare!  Kermit is the author of a new children’s book series based on the character “Prepper Pete” who is the star character of Kermit’s first book, “Prepper Pete Prepares“.

Prepping makes complete sense – to those who prepare. But we all know the blank stares, looks of confusion, and even snickers that sometimes come when we try to explain our reasons to others.

I mean, how do explain the obvious, right?

But even if your in-laws, out-laws, friends or family, just don’t “get it” – you can’t escape the need to prepare those who literally depend on you – your children.

If you’ve seen shows like “Doomsday Preppers” – then you’ve got a pretty nifty list of what NOT to do. Going through a dry-run with you kids can be a great way to bond, but sometimes “how” you do something is just as important (if not more so) than “what” you do. In fact, you can teach a lot of skills to your kids without ever mentioning the end of the world, zombies, or even disasters.

For example, Kermit wanted to show his kids how to make a fire with a magnesium fire starter (with the flint down the side). Now, he could have said, “Okay, daddy’s gonna show you how to use this because one day your life may depend on it, and if you can’t figure it out, you’re gonna freeze to death or be eaten by wild animals in the pitch black of night!”

Sure, that would have gotten the point across, but is it really necessary!?

Instead, his approach took a slightly different approach: “Hey, how would you like to learn to make fire without using matches or a lighter!?” Oooooh… a little excitement combined with a fun challenge.

“And we’ll even make s’mores with it!” Instant sell.

During the process, they were still able to discuss types of tinder, kindling, fire-building philosophies and the like. Because it was tied to something emotionally important to them (yes, the s’mores), this way kids not only remember, but they want to do it again in the near future!

Episode-1290- Insurance a Hole in Many Preppers Lives with Jason Adkins

Insurance isn’t a sexy topic, it isn’t like growing a food forest, building a solar system or tweaking accuracy out of your AR or AK, but it is important.  The most common disasters people experience each day are…

  • Serious injury or death of a loved one
  • Loss of a job
  • Loss of a home due to storms or fires
  • Loss of your ability to work due to injury
  • Automotive accidents
  • Legal attacks

All of these areas are far more likely to hit you based on disaster probability then a major pandemic or say a global economic collapse.  So it makes sense to insure against such events where and as you can.  Jason Adkins is currently an insurance claims adjuster and previously worked as an insurance agent.  He joins us today to discuss insurance from a prepper point of view and how to make smart decisions about what to buy and what not to buy.

Episode-1289- Learning to Hunt Without a Gun Part 2

I could have called this series learning to hunt without a gun or a bow or a trap or anything but that title would be too long.  Today’s show is part two of a series so you may really wish to listen to part one first if you have not done so already.

This series began as an extension of a listener question I answered two weeks ago about learning to hunt when you had no one to teach you.  No family, no friends, no mentors, no one.  In part one we focused on the following,

  • The primary hurtles to entry
    • Land access
    • Time
    • Knowledge
  • Hunting with a camera, the limits of reality
  • Keeping a game log
  • Understanding game patterns
    • Whitetail deer
      • reading the wind
      • runs, rubs, scrapes, droppings and tracks
      • feeding patterns
      • bedding
      • seasonal effects
      • the rut
      • peak movement times
      • pattern disruption

Again I am assuming today that you have already listened to part one and have the above as background information about our topic today.  I’ll do a VERY brief review in the intro but it will be brief indeed.

Today we continue with the extension of those concepts and cover the following

  • Squirrel Hunting Patterns
    • Seasonal Food
    • Nesting
    • Breeding
    • Predator Response
  • Hunting Tactics
    • Spot and stalk
    • Still hunting
    • Stand/ambush hunting
  • Why this method will make you a great hunter
    • Allows for a faster experience growth curve
    • Focuses on what you can do now
    • Will teach you game behavior
    • Learn from you mistakes when they don’t matter
  • Getting land access for real hunting
    • Public hunting
    • Guided hunting
    • Lease access
    • Private land with permission

UCG: Untrained Civilian Goofball

TSP Gear Shop

Note from Glen Tate, author of 299 Days: When the real Team from 299 Days was on the range and people would see us shoot, they would ask, “What unit you guys with?” or “Which agency?” At first when I said, “We’re just civilians,” people wouldn’t believe us. Then one day when someone asked “What department you guys with?” I answered, “We’re UCG: untrained civilian goofballs.” An acronym was born. The reason UCG is so fitting to so many civilians who train is two-fold. First, we’re humble. We’re not trying to be military or law enforcement. We’re just learning some skills and having a good time. Second, by calling ourselves “goofballs,” it’s a polite way of saying, “We aren’t half bad at this.” Besides, telling people we’re “untrained civilian goofballs” is more believable than, “a lawyer, insurance salesman, hospital tech, inventory guy, and rental shop guy.”

TSP Gear Shop has just created a new Untrained Civilian Goofball patch and sticker for Glen and his Team. The items are also available to order in the gear shop. Check out these, and the other great items, at TSP Gear Shop today!

Episode-1286- Raising Rabbits with Rebecca Colvin

Rebecca Colvin has been raising show rabbits for the past 17 years. During this time she has seen and done pretty much everything you can think of with regards to raising rabbits, breeding, showing, heat problems, ventilation, pests, diseases, and so on.

Throughout the 17 years Rebecca has won at many shows and placed well at the national level. She raises Mini Rex for most of that time; they are a small cousin of the Rex rabbit, which is commonly used for fur and meat. The Mini Rex is more commonly used for the pet trade but they taste just as good as any other rabbit.

At the beginning of 2013 Rebecca started keeping her culls and eating them instead of selling them to keepers of big snakes and cats. Other then rabbits, Rebecca has a love all animals. She has three dogs, two finches, a Western Hog Nose, and a Betta fish named Rock Star. She works in Pet Retail helping educate people to become better pet parents.

Join Rebecca and I as we Discuss…

  • How do you start raising rabbits
  • What breed is right for you
  • What is the best set up for a rabbit barn
  • Considerations in choosing the location of your set up
  • How do you breed rabbits
  • How do you deal with extreme temperatures
  • What are the top mistakes people make when starting out

If you have questions for Rebecca you can ask them in the comments below or email here at minirexs at gmail dot com.

A Look At The Flexability of a Steven Harris Mobile Battery Bank

As most of you know we are running a workshop February 20, 21 and 22.  At that workshop among other things we will be building three mobile battery banks in three different pick up trucks like the one in this video.

The video below is the end of the third video in Steven Harris back up batter power video series.  You can purchase all three of them and all the components to build systems like this at Battery1234.com.

The thing is I wanted everyone to get a taste for how flexible this system is.  So I asked Steve to share the final part of his third video and he graciously agreed to do so.  This part shows more what the system can do vs. how to build it but that is the point.

Again if you want to spend three days in a hands on workshop with Steve and I learning how to build this system you can do so at this link.  In any event enjoy the sneak peak of the system here.  And remember if you can’t attend but want to build a system like this on your own Steve’s video series can help you do just that.

Again I hope to see many of you at the coming workshop. If you have any questions about what will be covered or anything at all just let me know.
