Episode-1098- Angery American on his Book “Going Home”

Visit AngeryAmerican.net Today.

Visit AngeryAmerican.net Today.

Angery – adjective – “A sarcastic, condescending, or taunting use of the word  angry.”

American – noun – “One who is a citizen of the United States of America”

That should set the stage for our interview with Chris “Angery American” today on his new book, “Going Home”.  One reviewer described this book as addictive in fact what he said was,

“Imagine squatting behind a dumpster trying to melt a page of this book in a spoon so you can get your fix, yeah, it’s that addictive.”

Here is a description of the story.

Imagine you’re driving down the interstate, it’s Friday and all you can think about is getting your weekend started. Then to begin the ruination of your much anticipated weekend the grating tone of the Emergency Alert System flashes over the radio, then promptly dies.

This is the beginning of a 250 mile odyssey for Morgan Carter. Morgan works on the road and finds himself far from home when his car dies, as well as his Blackberry and every other piece of electronics he has. With no idea what has occurred he reluctantly finds himself on shanks’ mare carrying that ridiculous pack that everyone made fun of him for keeping in the car.

Morgan has to find his way across the state of Florida, from Tallahassee to the heart of the state in Lake County.Along his way he has to seek out food, water and shelter where he can, not to mention keeping himself from being killed by any number of now scared and desperate people. During his travels he will try and help where he can, but that can turn out to be a costly mistake.

We live in a wonderfully modern society where anything we want is a mouse click away. The lights come on with the flip of a switch and even a child can turn on the faucet at the sink and water always comes out. But what if it all went away?

Could you face what Morgan faces, could you make the decisions he has to make? Life and sometimes death in the blink of an eye, could you do it?

Episode-1097- How A Libertarian Society Would Function

We have had some pretty good discussions about libertarian concepts on the blog here in a very old article I posted almost 4 years ago.  I guess something  happened a lot of new people found it.  What I am coming to understand is many see libertarianism, objectivity and anarchism as the same things, they are not the same things.

Many how would ______ get accomplished questions about libertarianism don’t actually apply to minarchist libertarianism.  So today I am going to discuss how a society that is at least moving in the direction of libertarianism would function and how things would get done and how our lives would be better for it.

Join Me Today to Discuss…

  • On Libertarianism
    • What is a libertarian
    • How do we differ from democrats, independents and republicans
    • What do libertarians really want
    • What is the libertarian view of social issues like marijuana and gay marriage
    • Is there any room  for any form of taxation in a libertarian system
    • Could an “income tax” ever be fair
    • How would we run a food system in a libertarian system
    • How would we run a banking system in a libertarian system
    • How would we “build schools and roads” in such a system
    • What safety net would exist for the truly disadvantaged
    • How is this related to self sufficiency, self reliance and independence

Chicks First Day On Pasture

I Our 17 chicks are currently to young to be out of the brooder over night but we have great warm temps so we are now putting them in a tractor during the day and returning them to the brooder at night.

The tractor is framed form 7.5 foot stud lumber and covered with 1/4 inch hardware cloth.  The birds are two different types of red sex link hens, a male sex link (we think but it was labled a pullet by Tractor Supply but was in with all clearly sex linked pullets) and 8 Egyptian Fayoumi.  There are 4 standard Fayoumis and 4 that were marked as “cinnamon silver”.

We really don’t have a clue what a “cinnamon silver” is, we are not even 100% sure it is a Fayoumi cross or color phase as I can’t find any info on them.  The do appear a lot like the other Fayoumis in growth rate, size and other characteristics, so we shall see in time.

The dimensions of the tractor are 7.5 feet long, 24 inches high and 44 inches wide which leaves 2 inches of over hang on both sides for the oak pallets. This works great for day time use by small chickens that can easily get though 2 inch chicken wire and might strangle themselves with one inch wire.  Later it will be converted to my “Quail Mansion” tractors which I have long term plans for.

Note – I stated a 50 foot roll of hardware cloth in the video, what I meant to say was a 25 foot roll.
