Tour of the New TSP Homestead

A lot of you guys have been asking me to put up some pictures of the new homestead.  Well, I got some time today and did one better for you with a video tour of the new place.

Its just a quick walk around with the iPhone but it gives you a good overview of our new place.  I hope many TSPers get a chance to come out and spend some time with us and learn more about self sufficiency as we improve the property.

Episode-1061- Rob Gray and Chris Duane on the Launch of TSPMint.com

Note – MSB Members get 1 dollar per medallion off ALL silver medallions in the TSPMint.com store.  The discount code is on the benefits page of the MSB.

Today is a big day, after a lot of planning we are launching TSPMint.com.  This is being done in conjunction with Rob Gray of AOCS and he joins us today to discuss all the great things going on at AOCS and the newly launched Mulligan Mint.

Over the past year Rob has been working heavily with Chris Duane who I introduced him to back when he was a guest on TSP.  Together they have released a series of silver medallions and it has really  helped Rob’s new mint get off the ground.  So we are fortunate to have Chris on today’s show as well.

Episode-1060- Moving as a Prepper and The New Homestead

Today is my first show back at the helm after the big move.  The show was disrupted far more then in anticipated.  As anyone knows moving is a tough thing to do, moving 350 miles with multiple animals in tow along with prepping supplies is even tougher.

This time we used a service from ABF to move the majority of our stuff for us, it was really the only way we could get things done.  So from Thursday the 24th until Monday the 28th we didn’t actually possess the majority of our stuff.

Even on Monday when the truck showed up unloading took a day and a half and even now we are far from the organized state we left in.  So today I want to talk a bit about how exposed you are during moving and what we might do different next time around, if the hell of having to move ever returns.

I also want to tell you about the new homestead.  I have learned a lot about it in the past few days some things are really awesome to discover and others not so much.  We are going to have some challenges with pond building due to rock formations that are not very deep below the soil, but the soil itself is great.

I’ll be laying out contour lines soon and having a discussion with Geoff Lawton about the challenges of what turns out to be ocean rock substructures.  Tune in to hear more.

PS – Due to the activity level in the house today, the pictures I mentioned in this episode will be coming tomorrow.

Extreme Delays in Email and Support Responses

I am about to disconnect the Satellite modem and begin loading the last of our items along with our pets into our two trucks.  Within an hour Dorothy and I will be on the road.  We do maintain an apartment with our son in the Arlington area but it is about an hour from our new house.  Likely we will get down there once every other day to respond to emails.  This will be our situation until some time on Wednesday the 30th.

I do plan to try to put up an episode for Monday and Tuesday next week, one may be recorded on the drive we are about to make, sort of a throwback to the Jetta TDI days for long time listeners.

The big thing is any thing you send me that is highly detailed in the next few days is likely best delayed for about a week, until we get settled in.  We will handle all tech support emails in as timely a manner as possible but please excuse the delays during our relocation.

I will also be checking in on zello at times during the commute should be at random spots between say 10 Am to 4PM central time today.  Until later, Jack out.

Support the Second Amendment and Look Good Doing It

Thanks to some help with the design on facebook from the TSP community the TSP Gear Shop is introducing a new shirt today that shows support for the second amendment.

The front breast design proudly states Molon Labe.  It is a classical expression of defiance reportedly spoken by King Leonidas I in response to the Persian army’s demand that the Spartans surrender their weapons at the Battle of Thermopylae. Consider it the orginal statement of “from my cold dead hands”.

The back design flies the stars and stripe and our guns which folks like to us seem to cling to according to the current president.  We also bring in our battle cry of “Every Citizen a Sentinel” and include the most easy to understand piece of government legislation ever written.

“The Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms Shall Not Be Infringed”

Isn’t it amazing that politicians that can write 1,000 page bills in legal mumbo jumbo seem to have a hard time understanding that one simple sentence?

Well now you can proudly make that statement and look great doing it.  The shirts are now in pre order at the TSP Gear Shop.

Here is the design for the front breast area

Episode-1059- The Evolving Meaning of a Self Sufficient Lifestyle

Many people romanticize history.  Oh if only we could have lived in the old days right?  Taking a wagon out to homestead virgin land.  Let me tell you as a student of history it was an amazing time to be alive, it was also a hell of a lot harder then many in the preparedness movement make it out to have been.

The reality is modern technology isn’t going away.  That is a great thing, it will change, adapt and face certain challenges due to energy availability but we are not going back to Little House on the Prairie.    Frankly I am okay with that.

Modern oppressive government isn’t going away either.  This of course I find unfortunate but it is also reality.  The more I learn the more I realize the majority of Americans are actually for bigger and more intrusive government.  They are simply divided as to how it should be marketed.  I know if you are a fan of liberty this makes little sense but the reality is people have had generations of conditioning and it is the rare person that easily breaks the cycle.

Hence to be self sufficient today we need to look at reality not at the romanticism of a history that isn’t going to return.  We also must not fantasize about the utopia promised by a small government society where we can all be left alone.  The only way to obtain this today is to create your own little pocket of as much of it as you can muster.

Join Me Today As We Discuss…

  • Why we must n0t turn our backs on technology
  • Why debt freedom must be part of your plan
  • Why where you choose to live is so important
  • Why community must be part of your plan
  • Why we all need to become homesteaders (no matter where we live)
  • Why we need hard skills to go along with soft and technical skills
  • How food storage fits with this plan, disaster or not
  • Why it is time to go on the offensive in some areas and not others

Join Me Today as I Answer Your eMails

It’s time for another round of you your feedback, questions and commentary sent to jack at thesurvivalpodcast.com.

Make sure if you submit content for a feedback show that you put something like “comment for jack”, “question for jack” or “article for jack” in the subject line to assure proper identification for my screening process.

Today we discuss surviving economic collapse, blue storms, idiocy in our school systems, how you can make a difference  and why you might want to consider moving out of certain states.

Please understand I receive several hundred emails a day and can’t get them all on the air. I do put out a lot of information on Facebook from emails that I can’t fit on the program though so keep em coming.

Join Me Today As I Respond to Your Emails On

  • Proof the many of the people running our schools have no common sense
  • What to do if you live in a firearms oppressive state
  • A teacher with common sense makes a difference in NC
  • Why moving to the middle of no where isn’t necessarily a great idea
  • What is a “blue storm” and how likely is one where you live
  • Thoughts on what is it going to take to survive what is coming

Black Dragon Tactical Joins the MSB

devjack

Devon shows Jack, “Defender Series Body Armor” at Liberty Forum 2012

Devon Standard is part of the team at Black Dragon Tactical.  He is also a great friend of the TSP community and a long time listener to the show.

Devon has been working for quite a while to get a system set up to offer members of the audience a discount and we finally have a way set up to do just that.

Black Dragon has some of the coolest tactical tools you will find anywhere including Defender Series Body Armor and the RONI Pistol Carbine Systems.  MSB members now get free shipping on all orders from Black Dragon Tactical.

The discount code has now been added to your MSB Benefits Page.

Also I wanted to let you guys know that the discount code for High Mowing Seeds had expired.  Of course this happened while we were shut down for the holiday and away from home.  We have gotten this corrected and High Mowing did honor all discounts for members that called in during the mix up.

In that vein this is a great time to be getting ready for spring planting please remember the following seed companies all provide MSB members a discount and consider them first if you will soon be placing seed orders.

There are a lot  of great small seed suppliers out there but these three companies support our community so consider supporting them when making a purchase for seeds or other gardening/homesteading items.

Again if you are an MSB member the discount codes for Black Dragon, High Mowing, Terroir and Victory are all on the benefits page of the membership site.  If you are not a MSB Member yet, these are just four of the total of 39 companies that currently provide exclusive discounts to the MSB.  For more info on the MSB just visit the Members Page.

Episode-1057- Zero to Prepared – Fast, Simple and Low Cost- Part 2

Today we cover part two of going from zero to prepared.  If you haven’t listened to part one of this series yet, you really should do so first.  You will notice that title of this episode ends in “low cost” vs. “cheap”.

As a marketer there is a rule, if you can eliminate a word do it, but that won’t work here.  Cheap sets the wrong tone for what we will discuss today, we are talking about protecting your life, your property and the lives of those you love, one doesn’t go “cheap” with such things.

Today may seem like a basic beginners show but I will bet even the seasoned prepper will gain something and if nothing else will be better able to help others get started.  Prepping doesn’t have to be complex or expensive, what it must be is specific to a set of goals, today we talk about simple ways to make that happen.

Join Me Today as We Discuss…

  • Energy
    • Set up a black out kit (basics)
    • Have a secondary means of cooking
    • Consider a generator and battery back up system
    • Have a means of supplemental heat and cooling if possible
    • Remember it is easier to heat a person then a house
    • It is also easier to make ice then cool air
    • Store gas, kerosene,  diesel, etc based on your needs
    • Keep your vehicle tanks full and rotate stored fuel
  • Security
    • Keep your doors locked at all times
    • Practice situational awareness
    • Keep multiple means of defense in your home
    • Be armed and be trained (every member of the house)
    • Know when to go to a “higher threat level” – trust your gut
    • Consider a dog, window films and other enhanced security
    • Take basic self defense training
    • Develop a mindset of meeting violence with superior violence
    • Keep your mouth shut, keep your eyes open and keep your mouth shut
  • Sanitation and Health
    • Water is almost always the biggest problem
    • Have a plan to deal with human waste
    • Have a plan for basic bathing, etc
    • Keep a decent supply of medical supplies
    • Maintain your health on a daily basis
    • Take basic first aid and CPR training
  • Final thoughts
    • Your plan must be your plan
    • There are 52 weeks in a year, one thing a week makes a big impact
    • What you think can never happen has already happened
    • Preparing while times are good is easy and inexpensive
    • Preparing when times are bad is often impossible

    • Insure the ability to do business when main systems are down
  • Once this is understood we create a basic checklist for each need
  • Food
    • Build 30, 60 and 90 days of reserves in that order
    • Begin with “copy canning” then move to cheap LTS
    • Slowly develop your own plan using prepared LTS foods
