Episode-912- Two Possible Futures Over the Next 4-12 Years

No this really isn’t about the election or who our next president will be, I think that won’t really matter much anyway.  This is about our role in our own futures, from my view point most of the dice have been already rolled and there are going to be severe economic consequences and we are going to face them.

Join Me Today as I Discuss….

  • How bad the debt really is and how bad it is going to be
  • A bit of debt history and what it can teach us
  • What the economic end game might look like
  • Why people are running to the dollar right now and why its a bad sign
  • What ignoring the current problems will lead to for many
  • Thoughts on where a good place to live is right now
  • Make sure where ever you move to you want to be for 30 years or more
  • Why I would not currently be putting money in most 401Ks
  • Know where you would move your money and make sure you can actually do it

Help Spread the Word and Share If I Wanted to Save America

Several listeners put together videos on my response to the video that came out about a month ago called “If I Wanted America to Fail“.  The week that video came out about 200 odd people sent it to me.  I walked around all week just thinking about the truths in it but really hated that it offered no solutions.

When something is important to the audience and it is sent to me by many people I feel compelled to cover it, yet I also feel even more compelled to focus on solutions.  When Friday of that week came I just spoke from the heart, this was the result.

Dene Brock who won the contest for best video did an amazing job.  I pledged to donate 100 dollars to Bella Ministries in honor of the winner and also pay the winner a prize of 100 dollars.  Well, Bella Ministries is getting 200 dollars for their relief work because Dene has refused to take her winning share.  Awesome lady there our Dene!  I think you will also agree if you haven’t yet see the video that she did an amazing job.  Please share this video far and wide today.

Episode-910- Mike Canaday on Grazing Goats, Electric Fencing and Working Dogs

Properly Managed Goats Improve Soil

Properly Managed Goats Improve Soil

Mike Canaday has 30 years experience in ranching and training Border Collies and Guardian Dogs to work with and protect livestock.

Goat grazing is a cost effective, ecologically sound way to clear land and promote growth of native grasses and beneficial plants, particularly for large acreages and difficult terrain.

It has been proven to efficiently handle areas that are inaccessible or difficult to manage with mowers, areas where burns are inadvisable, and sensitive areas where the application of herbicides is not appropriate.

The crazy thing is even if you don’t own a lot of land you could still own a lot of goats.  With advances in portable electric fences, the goats ability to forage land unsuitable for cattle, the cost effectiveness over mowing or herbicides and their ability to improve soil, many people actually pay to have goats graze their lands.

Mike Joins Us Today To Discuss…

  • Getting started with sheep and goats
  • Why sheep and goats, why not cattle
  • How to properly use electric fencing for predator protection and paddock shifting
  • What to look for in an electric fence
  • How much power a fence needs to be effective and what can cause power loss
  • Using dogs for both working and protecting your live stock
  • How you get other people to pay you to put your goats on their land
  • Finding properties that will be usable for your herds
  • Why some people say “electric fencing doesn’t work” and why they are wrong
  • Scaling goat grazing up and down based on property size and needs
  • Keeping dogs fierce enough to protect a herd by still sociable when not “on duty”
  • Channeling instinct in a dog vs. relying on their “intelligence”
  • Dogs for homestead security

Please Remember the Real Meaning of Memorial Day

Today We Honor the Fallen

Today We Honor the Fallen

There will be no episode of TSP today in recognition of Memorial Day.  I do want to take a moment to remind everyone today of what Memorial Day is all about.  Many well meaning people even get it wrong in a way.  My inbox is full of “thanks for your service” emails today.  I appreciate it, there is nothing wrong with thanking a vet today, yet it is not really the day to thank vets many seem to believe it to be.

It seems to me that many think Memorial Day is like Veterans Day Part Two, it isn’t.  Again no day is a bad day to thank a vet but if we become convinced that Memorial Day is about those of us that served and came back home, we miss the point.  Memorial Day is more somber, it is about those who fell in battle and never again got up, it is about those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, it bluntly is about those who died.

Today at some point just pause and think about that.  Think about the 4,400 of our US soliders that have fallen in Iraq, the 2,000 in Afghanistan, the 47,000 in Vietnam, 33,000 in Korea, 291,000 in WWII, 53,000 in WWI or perhaps the 212,000 that fell on both sides in the War Between the States.

You don’t have to be for any war past or present to respect men and women who will give their lives for what they believe and fight the wars that politicians initiate.  There are days for just about everything now.  Days for bosses, secretaries, days for this and that and anything Hallmark can come up with.

What you won’t find in most greeting card stores is a Memorial Day Card, because those who would receive the card can’t open it, read it and feel good that someone cares.  All they can hope for is that someone remember their sacrifice, perhaps a flower or a wreath on their graves (if they even have one) or a comrade who is now living with a zeal for life in their memory.

Today my friends is to remember those who served and died.  Enjoy the day off if you have it, just try to remember the cost of this day.  Some say you can’t count the cost, sadly you can and the numbers are very large.  If you want to put it in perspective, just view the US Military Casualties of War Page on Wikipedia.

Episode-906- Caleb Causey of Lone Star Medics

A Recent Training Exercise at Lone Star Medics

A Recent Training Exercise at Lone Star Medics

Caleb Causey is the owner and Director of Training for Lone Star Medics.  Caleb started his career riding out with Medstar ambulance services in Fort Worth Texas; as part of the Boy Scouts of America’s Explorer program at the age of 16. After high school he joined the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic.

Caleb has been deployed to various locations in the Balkans; where he has worked as a line medic with the 82nd Airborne and in the ER of the 212 MASH. He especially enjoyed his duty as an OPFOR Medic while stationed in Louisiana. After serving his country, Caleb joined the City of Benbrook’s Fire Department and served there as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT.

Over the next several years Caleb was involved with the department’s rescue dive team and worked as the Tactical Medic with local area SWAT team. Caleb also has worked with multiple Private Military/Security Companies as a Medic and as an Operator. Caleb completed Paramedic school in College Station, Texas. This is where he attained his American Heart Association’s BLS Instructor, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications, Heartsaver Instructor, and Emergency Medical Services Instructor for the state of Texas.

Caleb has proven to have a true passion for teaching medicine to people of all walks of life. Most of his classes are full of knowledge, experience, and laughter.  He joins us today to discuss the role of tactical medical training for the preparedness lifestyle.  After today you may see the phrase “tactical medical” in a new light as it doesn’t always involve bullets and an active shooter scenario.  Anytime there is a lack of support, an element of danger (natural or man made) and an imminent need for treatment, we can find ourselves in a “tactical situation”, which of course means it can happen any given day of the week.
