A quick bag garden combined with a natural trellis.

Gardening and permaculture are key topics with me when it comes to modern survival living.  Some question this concept and feel survivalism is far more about beans, bullets and bandaids than compost, a shovel and turning soil.

To such types I have one question, where do you think the beans come from?

I have said a few things before that I feel need to be reinforced today.

  1. You can only store so much food
  2. You may fight a real battle a handful of times in your life or never but you must eat daily
  3. Our current food supply is threatened
  4. Our food supply is now heavily effected by inflation
  5. Being self sufficient means you must feed yourself

This is all well and good but at times we find ourselves in transitional periods or dealing with harsh environments.  While I believe that permaculture can in fact terraform the desert (because it has, see Greening the Desert for an example) such terraforming takes time and resources.  Something you may not have or have in sufficient amounts to feed yourself this season.   Today I present to you some options that can get you up and producing quickly during just about any season of the year.

The purpose of today’s show is to help you get production will making major improvements to the land itself or even use the transitional method to improve the land long term.

Well it is Friday and our first listener call in show since I have returned from vacation.  We have some awesome stuff today on ground nuts, constitutional law,  pepper spray for defense, composting, coupons and more.

One of the favorite topics on prepper forums and in doomer literature is TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it).  I think what many fail to focus on with this is the (as we know it) portion.  The fact is the world as people of their time knew it has ended many times, it will continue to end.

At one time a Roman citizen was the most advantaged in the world, so also there was a time when it was a great to be a Greek, an Aztec or a member of the Hopi Tribe.  None of these civilizations really “ended” they shifted and adapted, the decedents are here with us.  In the case of the Greeks they are now on the verge of bankruptcy but we still have Greece.  The Aztecs may be gone but their descendants are part of the blood of Mexican and Latin American citizens today as are many of their customs.

Shifts are strange, at times they benefit us, sometimes they harm us and sometimes they can all but destroy us.  Some our subtle and some are massive and even tiny shifts can cause massive change over time.  The only constant in shifts it they ALWAYS occur, they never stop and we will always have to deal with them.

Today’s show covers a few such shifts but mainly focuses on being prepared for them, no matter what form they may take.

Site Remodeling Going On

There is a bug in our primary site theme, this bug is setting off an alert for some users of Internet Explorer, the alert says the site may be unsafe.  While this is in fact false and there is no threat to anyone on the TSP server it is certainly bad for business.

Rather than continue to deal with concerns and perhaps give TSP a bad reputation with new visitors I have simply disabled the old theme.

Rest assured this is not our new look an feel just a get by so I can get on with recording today’s show.

So please don’t be alarmed that the site looks different, the podcast is still available and a show for today is on the way.
