Episode-198- Thoughts on Selecting a Bug Out Location

Today’s broadcast discusses options for setting up, finding and selection of a bug out location,  (also called a BOL or fall back location).   There is also a bit of follow up on yesterdays show about the swine flu and some other little pieces of advice.

Tune in today to hear about…

  • How far is far enough away, how close is to close
  • Does a BOL have to be remote, think about Hurricane Katrina
  • Why a bug out location is a highly personal choice and what you want is most important
  • Hidden gotchas to watch out for in buying a second piece of property
  • Why tent camping is not a good idea for your BOL and why you really need a structure ASAP
  • Starting with an outbuilding is a good option
  • Thoughts on over looked benefits of mountain land
  • My personal big 4, (water on property, guns are acceptable, land is good for growing food and livestock are welcome in the community)
  • Is the Northwest the most ideal place, thoughts on rough winters and possible global cooling
  • Watch out for potential annexation by surrounding towns/cities
  • Buyers covenants are good, home owners associations are evil!
  • If you move permanently to your BOL you no longer have a fall back position
  • Stay away from major roads, roving hordes are not the only reason
  • Know the community you have chosen before you buy
  • The hidden danger on land that borders “National Forest”, etc.
  • Have redundancy options for your well, (manual, solar, something not grid dependent)
  • Using slope to your advantage with water harvesting

Episode-197- Lessons from the Non Event of Swine Flu

Today’s show notes are very brief but suffice to say we discuss a variety of lessons the prepper community should have learned about the government, themselves, the general public and even the tin foil hat crowd over the past few weeks.

I also let you know about a man made drought in Southern California, which has nothing to do with the weather, it is all about a minnow.  This minnow will case 60,000 people to loose jobs and all but guarantee food shortages in the coming years.

Episode-196- Permaculture Intoduction to Layers and Zones

Today you will get to hear me almost rear ended on the highway right at about 29:44 into the show.  Rest assured I was not harmed nor was my vehicle damaged!  I edited out a bit particularly my use of the F word.

On the subject the first 10 minutes are mostly a follow up from yesterday’s discussion on libertarian principles and how you can explain the common objection about “the things government has done right”.  I will also let you know about the interview I did with Lew Rockwell and a new working relationship between LewRockwell.com and TSP.

I then go into an introduction to permaculture principles and explain the 7 layer system of

  1. Canopy
  2. Low Trees
  3. Shrubs
  4. Herbaceous
  5. Rhizosphere (root crops)
  6. Soil Surface (cover crops)
  7. Vertical (climbing vines)

From there I explain the 5 zones of permaculture beginning in zone one (closest to human habitation) and progressing to zone 5 (wild forest).

Episode-195- Will Survivalism Turn You Into A Libertarian?

In my last show I gave a warning, “if you keep practicing survivalism you are going to sooner or later turn into a libertarian”.  I have gotten more then a few questions about what that means.  Is TSP a secret plot to brain wash people into a libertarian mindset sort of like those alien Hulu commercials?  No not at all but there is a reality that once you are self sufficient, well prepared and have the mentality of a survivor the way you view the world will start to change.

Episode-193- Debt Elimination is Survivalism 101

I have been talking to quite a few media outlets lately and they always want to discuss what I consider the “sexy” aspects of survivalism.  Now I don’t consider them sexy myself but what I mean is the parts of survivalism that spin into an interesting news story, you know a mountain of stored food, an underground bunker or a small arsenal of weapons.

Each of those things is vastly misunderstood by the media to begin with but the one thing they really have a hard time making is the link between debt elimination and basic modern survival tenants. The reality is that debt elimination is survivalism 101, you simply cannot be a survivalist is you rely on Amex when the shit hits the fan.

Tune in today to hear…

  • The basic rules of survival
  • What the reaction to swine flu teaches us about debt and panic
  • Why debt really is cancer and why it will make you act in fear
  • How debt leads to bigger government
  • Why 401k balances are not really what led people to run to government in the economic crash
  • Why financial management and debt elimination cannot be separated from survivalism
  • Why the stimulus will “work” short term and what you should do when it does
  • A tale of two men John and Tom and what it teaches us about managing our lives
  • Why people in debt spend more money then people who are not in debt (I am talking about new spending)
  • Why you can’t do many of the simple survival steps well until you eliminate or at least begin to eliminate debt
  • What planning vs panic teach us about debt
  • The main way to be a survivor is to reduce dependence -
